Look closely at the narrow ribbon, consisting of three black and two orange stripes, associated with the smoke and flames of battle. It appeared in our state back in 1769 along with the Order of St. George. For modern Russians, it serves as a symbol of victory in the Great Patriotic War. Expressing boundless respect for veterans and grief for the fallen defenders of the fatherland, before May 9, we decorate our clothes with St. George ribbons.

  • Place the right end over the left and run crosswise under it.
  • Wrap the right end around the left end again and thread it through the loop from bottom to top.
  • After pulling the end out of the loop, thread it through the resulting eye and tighten the tie.

How and where best to attach the St. George Ribbon

Before the Great Victory Day, we are given the famous St. George ribbons so that we can wear them with pride for our fatherland. This must be done consciously, and not by imitating others. Experience shows that not all people know how to tie the St. George ribbon correctly. What you are holding in your hands is not a fashion accessory, but a symbol of military valor, so it is not woven into your hair, attached to a skirt or trousers, or attached to a bag. It should be in the upper part of the body, on the left side, closer to the heart.

The origin of the St. George ribbon goes back to the distant 18th century. But during the Soviet Union it experienced its rebirth, becoming part of the Order of Glory in 1943. This order was awarded to warriors who proved themselves to be true heroes of the Great Patriotic War and accomplished a feat. And after the end of the battle, the St. George ribbon with a carnation became an invariable symbol of victory over Nazi Germany.

If you were given a St. George's ribbon on the eve of the holiday, think carefully about where you will place it. Mostly it is attached to a jacket or dress in the area where veterans wear medals, that is, on the left side of the chest. A brooch made of satin St. George ribbons, made in the kanzashi style, also looks beautiful here. It is allowed to wear the attribute on the wrist; it is tied with a double knot. Drivers place colorful bows inside the car interior, or attach them to a mirror or antenna.

Do not use St. George's ribbon as a hair tie or shoe lace. Don't tie it to your pants belt or your dog's collar. At the very least, this is not ethical, and by and large it is disrespect for the memory of the soldiers who defended their homeland from the Nazis and gave their lives for the happy future of their children and grandchildren. Treat the symbol with respect and explain the meaning of the St. George ribbon to the younger generation.

Good afternoon, dear readers!

On the eve of Victory Day, Irina Rudevich crocheted a St. George's ribbon with beads and recorded a master class for you.

The St. George's Ribbon campaign has been held in our and other countries since 2005. It is dedicated to the victory in the Great Patriotic War and was organized with the aim that new generations would not forget and know the price of victory, so that they would remember and be proud of the heroes of the war forever.

As part of the promotion, St. George ribbons are distributed free of charge. St. George's ribbons are a symbol that is not an object of purchase or sale. Therefore, no matter how much you want, it is impossible to buy such a ribbon.

Irina decided to tie the ribbon herself. For several years I could not find the St. George ribbons anywhere. " And suddenly it dawned on me, says Irina, that I can tie her up. Then the thought came that I could knit it with beads, like a brooch, it would be simply gorgeous! I quickly went through the nearby handicraft stores, bought the materials that were more or less suitable and knitted them».

orange Iris threads;
Kamtex Dandy threads (50 g-330 m) black;
hook No. 1-1,2;
wire for beading.

Crochet St. George's ribbon with beads

We knit a ribbon on the wide side, 27 cm long.

In the 1st row: we tie the collected chain of air loops with orange threads with connecting loops.

From the 2nd row, knit with beads in single crochets, alternating stripes of black and orange.

We tie the resulting ribbon in single crochets with orange threads and beads, inserting beading wire. This is necessary to secure the edge so that the ribbon does not curl into a tube.

Additionally, we tie the ribbon with connecting loops with orange threads.

You can watch a detailed master class on crocheting St. George's ribbon with beads in this video.

It turned out to be a wonderful brooch that can be attached to clothes or a bag.

If you want to learn how to knit with beads and take your skill to the level of luxury, Irina Rudevich’s video course will help you with this.
